Now you can be an assassin in the near-future as well as being one back in time - just before the beginning of the revolutionary war, in 1775. Playing as the assassin named Desmond Miles in colonial America, you must fulfill your family obligation to keep and maintain control of the "artifacts". The artifacts, which are also being pursued by the Templars, belong to an ancient and extinct race and have untold powers.

In a free-roaming world, you can access your memories to unlock clues to finding and securing the artifacts. You'll need to keep quiet and secretly enter areas using your stealth skills, or you can just sword-fight your way through - which way to choose will depend on the task at hand. This is similar to the game-play in the preceding Assassin's Creed games, but with more weapons and additional skills to learn and develop.
