Good Vs. Evil

Submitted by: CheatMan

There are basically two routes to play in Fallout: Good or Evil. You can go around rescuing people, fighting crime, and being an all-around good guy -OR- you can go around stealing stuff, assassinating people, etc. Either way you will end up making some people like you and some hate you.

Game Structure

Submitted by: CheatMan

Fallout is a very non-linear game. There are tons of unnecessary side quests that may or may not have anything to do with your main quest(s). However, these side quests are always beneficial to undertake because there is typically a worthwhile reward. Going straight for the main objectives, Fallout can be finished fairly quickly. Of course, this is with minimal enjoyment. So, I recommend finishing as many side quests as you can stand. Like many role-playing games, Fallout using an experience-based advancement system. The more experience points (XP) you get, the better your character becomes. However, some other games only allow you to get XP through combat. This is not the case with Fallout. You can get XP for getting items, accomplishing tasks, visiting locations, even just talking to people. There are also typically several ways to accomplish any particular objective depending on your character's style of gameplay. This essentially gives Fallout a good bit of replay value by allowing you to go through the game using different techniques to accomplish quests.

More Money

Submitted by: CheatMan

Well, at the beginning of the game you are poor and will need every bit of money you can get. So, you should try and pick up almost everything you find, because it can all be sold for money later. If you have a good Steal skill you can steal caps off of everyone you meet. Better yet, you could steal items like guns and such that are worth a lot of caps and sell them. Also make sure you search all the shelves, bookcases, desks, drawers, etc. Many times you can take the stuff in them and not make anyone mad. Have you been to The Hub yet? It's the central place to buy and sell things in the wasteland. You can sell extra goodies you have here and get caps. If you go to the FLC in The Hub Downtown, you can get a loan there for up to 1000 caps. Actually, at first you can only borrow 200 caps. He wants you to show that you can repay small stuff first. But you can borrow 200, pay it straight back to him, and he will let you borrow more. Repeat until you can borrow the maximum of 1000. Of course, you only have 10 days to repay him... And there's that nasty 10% interest rate per day. I would use other methods to get money. You can get a job at The Hub

Combat Tips

Submitted by: CheatMan

When fighting enemies with melee weapons or animals, try aimed shots at their legs. If you cripple their legs, they will never get close enough to you to do any damage. Sometimes you may be able to knock your opponent on the ground. Take advantage of this opportunity and go for an aimed shot before they get up. There will be a high bonus on your chance-to-hit. When using burst-mode weapons or explosive weapons (grenades, rocket launchers, etc.) aim for groups of enemies. You can usually cause damage to several of them at once. Many of the people you kill will have stimpaks and ammo on their bodies. Always loot the bodies and you will have a better chance of surviving the next fight.
