Go to Quest Mode. Type in, L1, L2, R1, R2, Left, Down, Left, Down. Then there will be a pop-up of what your team name is, what your cars will be named, their profiles, a selection of exterior effects (such as) static ball, rainbow, bullets, variety color muffler, or nothing at all. This will give you a pop-up keyboard to do all this information about your team.
Starters should all read this! This hint is all about what car you should start off with! You start off with $40,000. You should start off with a cheap, dumb car, like a Subaru Alcyone VR for $14,200-use your remainding money and spend it on your engine, muffler, and cooling. That will make your Alcyone pretty decent. But-you could oblitherate other rivals with your speed. Get lots of money and spend it on your aero parts and your clutch-also known as acceleration.
Note: This trick must be done with a NA car, meaning non-turbo cars. At the map screen while choosing an area to enter, hold Select. Enter the area you choose while holding Select. Keep holding Select while the game loads and until the auto- pilot feature comes on. Begin a race and you can now use the boost. Note: Use the boost wisely, as the water and oil temparature will rise drastically.
Get over 1242.8 miles (2000 km) on the odometer on a car to unlock the ability to switch engines on that specific car. Successfully complete 100% of the game to switch the engine of any car.
Select time attack, free run, or vs. battle mode and choose rain. While you are selecting the track starting point, hold R2 to make it thunder.
Select time attack, free run, or vs. battle mode and choose rain. While you are selecting the track starting point, hold L1 to make it snow.
Select time attack, free run, or vs. battle mode and choose rain. While you are selecting the track starting point, hold L2 to make it foggy.
While choosing an area selection at the map screen, hold Select. Release Select when the auto-pilot engages. Start a race, and you will be able to use a boost. Note: This can only be done with cars that do not already have a turbo.
To get your mileage up over 1200 miles, instead of having to do all of that driving, try this. Lose/Win/Retire from a race so that you reach the Free Run Screen. Eject the tray on the PS2, but leave the game disc inside the tray. Select Free Run. The game will play on Auto Pilot. You must leave the game in this mode for 12 - 15 hours - it is driving all of that time on Auto Pilot. Once you want to take control of the game again, press the button on the PS2 to close the tray and wait for the game to give you back control. This may take 30 seconds or so. Some people have had success with removing the game, closing the tray and the selecting Free Run. Note: Do this trick at your own risk. Be sure your PS2 is in a safe place because it could be damaged if it was to fall over or bumped with the tray open.
